Florida Café inside Howard Johnson Motel
The best ethnic restaurant and bar discoveries are the little out-of-the-way places run by the original families. In Vegas, one of the best off-the-beaten-track excursions is to a little Cuban eatery called Florida Café tucked away inside the Howard Johnson Motel. Don’t let it’s location in the obscure section of The Strip located south of Downtown and just north of the Stratosphere Tower throw you off. It doesn’t matter whether you’re going there for breakfast, lunch or dinner…the food is true to its roots and addictively good. Cuban bread and eggs with sweet plaintains, tamales, and chuletas empanizadas (breaded pork chops) top our personal list of favorites. You can eat a whole meal just from the appetizer menu, or go at the entrees family-style so you get to try everything. Florida Café, 1401 Las Vegas Boulevard, South; 702.385.3013.
