Avenue Q

Instead of watching this bawdy puppet-themed show tour the country, Steve Wynn signed it to an exclusive deal at Wynn Las Vegas, and built a special state-of-the-art theater to accommodate it. The Tony-Award winning musical, based on John Witty's clever book, with the wonderful music of John Lopez and Jeff Marks, is hip, sarcastic and sometimes even raunchy, but not "raunchy" in a bad way. Rather, its themes of loneliness, purpose, friendship and finding one's place in a crazy world resonate deeply with all of us. It's caustic sarcasm gilded with tender innocence. The "Bad Idea Puppets" are the real stars of the show, and the names of the characters - to wit, Lucy the Slut, Blue-Faced Drama Queen, and Trekkie the Monster (a porn addict) - give you a good idea of what to expect. Peopled by puppets, this is a much sexier, outrageously funny show than traditional "puppet" stories - and, really, now many of those can you think of off the top of your head anyway?
