Las Vegas - Infamous Mob Hits Las Vegas - Bugsy Siegel
In the mid-1940s, Bugsy Siegel borrowed about $5 million from the syndicate to finance the construction of the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. After the hotel's disastrous grand opening on Dec. 26, 1946, Siegel came under intense pressure from the Mob to cut his losses, or at least scale back the project. At one point during arguments over the future of the hotel, he threatened the life of infamous mobster Charles "Lucky" Luciano. Lucky didn't take it lightly and ordered a "hit" on Bugsy.

Las Vegas - Bugsy Siegel Supposedly, fellow gangster Meyer Lansky called Siegel to warn him, and tried to convince him to repay some of his debt. But the hot-tempered Bugsy refused. The "hit" came on June 20, 1947, when eight rifle shots were fired through the window of his girlfriend Virginia Hill's Hollywood home. Bugsy was hit five times in the head and torso, and killed. His epitaph appropriately read:

"From the Family".
Only five people attended his funeral, all relatives. Ironically, Virginia Hill, Meyer Lansky, nor any of Bugsy's Hollywood friends were in attendance.

Sam Giancana was one of the highest-ranking Mafia bosses killed by his own Mob family. He ran the infamous Chicago crime syndicate for years until his relationship with a famous Vegas showgirl made him a liability. The Chicago Mob boss was murdered on June 19, 1975, in the basement of his home. Giancana had just returned to the U.S. from a South American republic where he had been exiled by the U.S. government.

Las Vegas - Anthony The Ant Spilotro
Anthony "The Ant" Spilotro was the Chicago Mob's man in Las Vegas. The bodies of Tony and his brother Michael were found buried in an Indiana cornfield on June 23, 1986. The gruesome "hit" depicted in the movie "Casino" was reputedly ordered by Mob boss Joe Ferriola during a meeting at a Czech restaurant that included Ernest Rocco Infelise and other Mob leaders. Mobster Dominic Palermo, who was in on the hit, reportedly had to call his wife from near the crime scene and have her come pick him up. His accomplices had left him in the cornfield when they fled the scene.
