What TIME is it? Apparently time to break out the funk, the R&B and the purple music. Morris Day and the Time were in funkadelic form November 30 at the House of Blues Las Vegas! And the Godfather was there to report the entire, nightlong event.
Everyone knows that the House of Blues Las Vegas is one of the city's top entertainment venues. There are three levels - standing room on the lower level, balcony seating on the second level, and a private club (The Spanda) on the third level. Private Club access is only available to Foundation Room members. The Godfather gathered up 55 of his closest friends and took over The Spanda for the duration of the concert. "J" and Prince tribute band Purple Reign were in the house, as was record producer Levant Marcus.
Morris Day is STILL the king of cool and his current Time line-up includes Monte Moir (keyboards), Jellybean Johnson (drums), Tori Ruffin (guitar), and Robert "Gi" Grisset (keyboards). Last, but not least, the host with the most, Jerome Benton. His official title? On-Stage Valet.
For those that have not witnessed a Time performance, it is truly an event. Many artists can translate music on-stage, however few can truly captivate an audience and generate the type of energy like Morris Day. The show is painstakingly choreographed, and toward the end of the performance there is a lengthy (and amusing) audience participation number.
At the conclusion of the concert, the Godfather moved the party up to the Foundation Room (see previous column on the Foundation Room) at the top of Mandalay Bay where the Time and the Godfather's guests turned up the volume. I believe one of the guests summed the evening up most appropriately when he stated, "Dude, that was EPIC!". Much love to the Foundation Room management for providing two private rooms, which were definitely required to hold the entourage and the guests acquired along the way. The party continued late until - well, that's about all the information the Godfather can divulge at this point.
